Carer Peer Support Groups

Peer support groups can help give you the opportunity to talk to other carers over shared experiences in a warm and friendly environment.

You may be able to find:

  • Emotional support - it may be comforting to chat with people who relate to the challenges of caring for someone;

  • Tips, resources, and information - peer support groups may have valuable information about supporting the person you care for, including knowledge of local support services within your area;

  • New friends - the demands of caring can take a toll on your social life, but making new friends in your peer support group can help you to feel more connected.

We can help connect you with peer support groups in your local area, and there may be groups that are specific to your caring situation, for example, peer support groups for:

  • Male carers

  • LGBTQIA+ carers

  • Young carers

  • Carers who care for someone who have a disability, mental illness, chronic (long-term) illness, aged related condition, or someone receiving palliative care.

Fill out the form to the right, and we will be in touch with more information and help connect you with a peer support group.

“I hope these meetings continue. I really have been encouraged and [it has] boosted my days as a carer knowing I’m not the only one in difficult circumstances. I enjoyed the support, help and advice and encouragement from everyone.”

- Carer, who attended a peer support group
