Advance Care Planning
Advance care planning is making a plan for the type of healthcare or personal care you would want to receive if you lost the ability to make decisions. This session will be an introduction to Advance Care Planning (ACP).

Advocacy & Your Rights as a Carer
Do you know what your rights are, as a carer?
As a carer, you have legal rights related to your role and how you should be treated. You may also need to manage the legal affairs of the person you care for.
It’s important to know your legal rights as a carer. The rights of Australia’s carers are recognised by national, state and territory laws and policies.
This month we will be offering an online session for carers, explaining what your rights are and how to advocate for the person you care for.
There will also be plenty of time during the session to answer any specific questions you might have.

Powers Of Attorney
It is important to plan for your future. It is so important that we are running this session again!
Right now you are able to make your own decisions about your finances and any medical treatment you might need. There may come a time when you need someone else to make those decisions for you.
A power of attorney will enable you to make sure that the person you choose can legally make decisions for you.
In this session, the Office of the Public Advocate will provide you with a brief overview of powers of attorney and how to set them up.
There will be plenty of time during the session to answer any specific questions you might have.

Answering Your Questions about Aged Care
The aged care system is complex, and it can sometimes be confusing and difficult to find your way.
This session will provide an introduction to the aged care system.
This session will help you:
understand the aged care system
compare the aged care services available to you
select the right services for you
get the right information you need to access aged care services
find out about the changes coming to Aged Care in 2023

Aged Care & How To Stay Safe In Your Home
Unfortunately, as those we care for age, falls in the home can become more likely.
This session is designed to help you:
Prevent falls within your home.
Know what to do if the person you care for has a fall.
Topics included will be:
Tips for ensuring safety at home
What to do when CR has a fall
Main causes of falls
Main focus is to be on prevention, at home, covering a range of scenarios or possible risk factors
Safety planning & quick guide on how to identify possible risk
There will also be time for your questions at the end of the session

What Is Dementia? - Greek Language Session
This session will be an introduction aimed at Greek speaking people who are living with dementia and the people who care for them.
Topics will include:
What is dementia?
What are the signs of dementia?
Risk factors, symptoms and treatment
When to seek medical attention
What you can do if you are caring for someone with dementia
Resources will be provided in Greek language

The session is aimed at carers over 55 years of age who care for people who have a disability, aged or mental health conditions.

Cardinia Over 55's Information Session: Care For Yourself
This workshop explores why your health and wellbeing are important and give you strategies to help better care for yourself. It will provide practical caring skills and strategies to help you manage your life as a carer.
The session will:
explore skills to manage challenges, situations & behaviours,
provide pathways for support,
talk about stages of change, life transitions, grief & loss,
promote emotional regulation & self-awareness,
help you to avoid isolation through community & social connections
provide information or resources that can support carers.
This workshop is open to all families and carers who live in Cardinia Shire, especially those who find it difficult to care for themselves.
This session will be face-to-face at: Outlook Pakenham Community Centre.
